Brittan's north coast spots

From Saint Malo to Lampaul-Plouarzel

Alexandre Megret, October 1999

St Malo area
St Malo area : Good when everywhere else is blown out; needs a decent W/NW swell to work properly.
Saint Lunaire area
St Lunaire area : Les Longchamps, popular beach break, quite mellow but nice waves, holds size. Some good reefs around - La Garde Guerin. Same W/NW swell and S wind are best.
Cap Fréhel area
Perros Guirec area
Some average beach breaks, Trestraou, Trestel, and some secret reefs (hot locals). Tons of people in the water when there's a swell coming in. Land of the Seven Island Surf Club. Can sometimes get epic when pumping over 8 feet. Gets rather surfable with a W cross-shore wind, surprisingly the waves tend to have a better shape in Trestraou with such a wind.
Locquirec area
Very good beach breaks, hold good size (up to 8ft). Needs a W/NW swell and Southern winds. 3 main breaks : Pors Ar Villec, sometimes tubular and epic (high tide), Le Moulin de la Rive(low tide) and Poul Roudou (high tide). An advice : don't fuck with the locals.
Porspoder area
Land of the reef breaks. Some of them are known - La Chapelle, Le Gouerou - but most of them remain secret. This area picks up a lot of swell, but favours W and NW directions; N facing spots for the main ones. Powerful waves, rocks underneath, bodyboarders land.
